BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care (A Level equivalent)
This course and the qualification you will achieve is equivalent to one A Level and it has been designed to be part of a typical two-year study programme, alongside A Levels. The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to the admission requirements of many relevant courses.

Why choose this course?
This course gives an introduction to the Health and Social Care sector. It is for learners who are interested in learning about the health and social care sector as part of a balanced study programme. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care, if taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications.
What will I learn?
This course provides the knowledge, understanding and skills that will prepare learners for further study or training. The content allows learners to concentrate on the development of their knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care.
There are four units on this course:
Human Lifespan Development
Working in Health and Social Care
Meeting Individual Care Needs
Physiological Disorders
Assessment Arrangements
The units are assessed either by external or internal assessment.
External examinations – all learners take the same assessment at the same time, normally with a written outcome.
Set tasks internally assessed – learners take the assessment during a defined assignment window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task.
Some external assessments include a period of preparation using set information. External assessments are available twice a year and students may have the opportunity to resit them.
For internally assessed units, assignments will be completed.
What will I need?
Health and Social Care is available to students with no previous experience of the subject. We would expect students to have four GCSEs at Grade 4 and a 5 in English.
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of the course could allow entry into higher education, including nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, teaching, social work, psychology and youth work degrees and/or employment or training in the health or social care sector.
