Callywith College application launch event success

It was standing room only for excited students and their parents who attended the Callywith College prospectus and application launch event in Bodmin town centre on Saturday 17th October.

College staff gave a talk on the Callywith College course offer and site progress to around 100 people in a crowded Shire Hall meeting room, while almost 300 copies of the College’s new prospectus were taken away. Over a hundred application forms were requested on the day, and 52 applications completed there and then.

There was particular interest in time lapse footage of the new college under construction below:

Callywith College will open in September 2017 in Bodmin to cater largely for post-16 students in North and East Cornwall. In its first year the College is offering 25 A Level subjects, five Level 2 Progression courses and 11 Level 3 Extended Diplomas. All will be delivered in a brand-new campus with state-of-the-art resources including modern teaching rooms and a new 3G all-weather sports pitch.

The launch event saw the College’s gazebo erected on Mount Folly Square with many parents and prospective students making a specific journey to Bodmin to talk about the options available. As well as completing application forms and discussing courses, many young people took advantage of the free photo bus and prize giveaways.

Mark Wardle, the new Principal Designate for Callywith College, was delighted with the success of the event. Given the number of applications already submitted on just one day for a total of 660 places available in year-one, he has encouraged others to apply now.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted about the interest and excitement in Callywith College.  It’s been great to talk to so many families about what we can offer. There is a real buzz around the prospect of the quality of Truro and Penwith College being easily accessible for students in North and East Cornwall at our Bodmin campus.

“We are delighted with levels of interest and applications during the day and the evident excitement about this opportunity to be among first cohort to learn at a fantastic new campus.”

For those who missed Saturday’s event, Callywith Colleges Application Suite is open at the Callywith site every first and third Saturday of each month until May 2017 on these dates. Students and parents / carers can call into the suite between 10am-2pm to talk to staff and get a view of the site from an aerial viewing platform.
