From Callywith to the Royal Navy

We were proud to welcome back Midshipman Ella Wills, one of our very first Uniformed Protective Services students and now a Royal Navy Officer.

Just over 18 months ago, Ella was sat where our current Year 2s are now – a top student, Gold DofE achiever, first aider, team player, and natural leader. Today, she’s just finished training as an officer in the Royal Navy and returned to inspire the next generation to follow in her footsteps.

Her story of hard work, resilience, and ambition truly resonated – especially with the many students hoping to commission in the Armed Services.

Ella shared her experiences studying the Protective Services Extended Diploma at Callywith: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at college and the experiences I gained from the course were second to none. Not only did I have the opportunity to broaden my academic knowledge through a range of different subjects, including Psychology and Politics, but I was also able to actively work on my team-working skills and get involved with sports and fitness.

“The course gave me a foundation of skills, from self-discipline to navigation, that improved my overall confidence when completing basic training in the Royal Navy and set me on the right path towards pursuing my career aspirations.”

Huge thank you to Ella for an outstanding talk.
