Students experience the rich culture and history of Granada
Spanish A Level students have recently returned from a trip to Spain, where they stayed with host families, attended language lessons and explored the beautiful historic city of Granada.
Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in Andalucía, Granada has a strong Arabic influence. Students enjoyed a guided tour of the Alhambra, an ancient Arabic city and one of the best preserved Islamic palaces in the world, where they learnt about the history of the Muslim Kingdom in Spain.
There were visits to the Albaicín (the Arabic quarter), Federico García Lorca’s house, the historic Cathedral and a Flamenco show in the caves of Sacromonte.
With their host families, students learnt more about Spanish culture, practised their language skills and sampled some delicious, traditional home-cooked food. Despite the chilly temperatures at times, the group enjoyed some much-needed sunshine and had a wonderful time getting to know the city and its culture.
