Ten Tors Triumph
We're delighted to celebrate our most successful Ten Tors Challenge yet, with both our 45-mile and 55-mile teams successfully completing the challenge and returning from Dartmoor with smiles, unforgettable stories and an incredible sense of achievement.
After months of training the teams were taken to Okehampton Army camp on Friday to prepare for their respective challenges and plan routes. On the Saturday morning at 7:00am, marked by the Red Devil Parachute Team and the firing of a field gun, the teams set off. The teams are required to walk their respective distances, and be completely self-sufficient, carrying full packs, camping overnight, carrying food and purifying their own water. A truly incredible feat!
This year was a year of records for Callywith. Our 45-mile team, Freya, Jess, Stan, Harry, Alfred and Amelia, crossed the line at 11:46am on Sunday morning, making them our fastest ever 45-mile team, beating the Callywith record by a whopping 35 minutes! Our 55-mile team, competing in the challenge for the very first time, Tom, Martha, Theo, Madeleine, Theo and Maciej, completed the course at 16:27pm after over 30 hours of gruelling walking, an incredible achievement for their first attempt. More importantly, both teams completed with all team members present. This is truly unique in a challenge that has a notoriously high dropout rate, due to the level of the challenge.
Both teams dug deep into personal resilience, supported each other and used their skills developed in training to full effect, we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
Praise must also go to Sam and James who, though they were not selected for the final team, were available as reserves, attending the event and supporting their teams through to the end! James and Sam were also a huge help to the staff team throughout the event.
As always, huge thanks to the team behind the team – your support makes everything possible.
