Learning Support Assistant

We are looking for a friendly, patient and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Callywith College.

You may already be working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant and be looking for your next opportunity. But you don't necessarily need to have worked in a school or college before.

If you're someone who enjoys helping others, communicates well, has plenty of patience and would find it rewarding to support young people to overcome barriers and achieve their goals, we'd really like to hear from you.

What will you be doing?

Working closely with our teaching and support teams, you'll help students with learning difficulties, disabilities or physical needs to access their learning and participate fully in college life.

No two days are likely to be quite the same. You could be:

• Supporting students during lessons, in small groups or on a one-to-one basis
• Helping students to access learning activities and materials
• Encouraging students to develop their confidence and become more independent
• Working alongside teaching staff and sharing feedback on students' progress
• Helping students to use specialist equipment or learning aids
• Supporting students on trips, extracurricular activities and residentials
• Providing practical support with mobility or personal care where this is required.

Above all, you'll be someone who understands that good support isn't about doing things for students but helping them develop the confidence and skills to do more for themselves.

Is this role for you?

We're interested in who you are and the skills you can bring, as well as your previous experience.

You could already have experience supporting young people with additional needs, whether professionally or in another setting. You might be working in education, care, health, youth or community support, or you may be considering a completely new direction.

We're looking for someone who is:

• Friendly, approachable and understanding
• Patient and able to adapt their approach to different people and situations
• A good communicator who enjoys working as part of a team
• Positive about helping young people develop their independence
• Comfortable using IT
• Willing to learn and undertake relevant training. 

You'll need English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent). Experience within a school or college would be an advantage, but it isn't essential.
