Transport & Bursaries

Callywith College is working in partnership with Cornwall Council and Sustrans (the UK’s sustainable transport charity - www.sustrans.org.uk) to promote active, sustainable travel to college and to reduce congestion. Choosing to travel on foot or by bicycle reduces air pollution and traffic congestion, whilst saving you money and keeping you fit. Using public transport also helps reduce your carbon footprint, so check out your travel options below and play your part in making Bodmin a better place to study.

Buses

Buses are a great, environmentally friendly way to get to college especially with the launch of the first electric buses being introduced into Cornwall in summer 2025.

For the 2025/26 academic year, the college is pleased to announce a new partnership with Stagecoach South West and RideTandem. Students and parents will use the RideTandem app for all college transport ticketing and travel management. This will replace the College Online Store and Go Cornwall Bus app used in previous years.

The Callywith College bus pass provides travel on your nominated route into and out of college at the beginning and end of the day, and now to a number of major Cornish towns at midday.

Information about bus passes and timetables can be found below.

Callywith subsidises the cost of bus passes for all students and offers significant bursaries to further reduce the costs for students from lower income households. For more information and to apply, please see our bursary page.

Bursary and Subsidised Bus Pass 2025-26

Callywith subsidises the cost of our bespoke transport for all students and offers significant bursaries to further reduce the costs for students from lower income households.

We can provide bursaries to contribute towards bus pass costs based on total net annual household income. For more information and to apply for a bursary, visit our bursary page.

Trains & Public Routes

In certain circumstances, using public transport may be a better option for students. Details regarding Cornwall Council’s Post-16 Travel Assistance can be found here. Please check public route availability and ticket pricing from September – we are expecting reduced services and significant price increases compared with current arrangements.

For students who may choose to travel by train to Bodmin Parkway, we recommend applying for the 16-18 Railcard, which provides discounted fares across Cornwall.  Full details can be found on the GWR website: www.gwr.com. Students can use the Bodmin Only pass to access Callywith buses from Bodmin Parkway or access public network connection services offered by Transport for Cornwall.

Alternatively, why not bring your bike on the train and use the cycle routes between the station and the College (approximately 25 minutes’ ride)? You’ll need to make a booking for your bike if it’s a high-speed train, otherwise the carriage of bikes is at the operator’s discretion.

Driving to College

More information on driving to college and parking permits, can be found here.

Walking & Cycling to College

Walking or cycling is a simple, environmentally friendly and free way to fit exercise into your day. The town centre is only a 10-15 minute walk or cycle away, so why not beat the traffic and give it a try? There is covered cycle storage at the campus and showers/ changing facilities are available. Dedicated traffic-free routes serving the town’s colleges are marked on the Bodmin active travel map www.cornwall.gov.uk/activetravel. Other traffic-free connections to College include the Camel trail from Padstow, Wadebridge and St Breward. www.cornwall.gov.uk/cornishway
